6.4.- Balkans: Ottomans and Habsburgs: imperial identities and visual strategies

The video will give an introduction of the shared history of Ottomans and Habsburgs, the types of encounters and dynamics between them. The Eastern borderlands were in more intense contact, which mostly of military nature, than the Western areas and the capital of the Empire, which was shaped by the court’s perception. This led to different perceptions and hence different memories between the Eastern and Western regions of the Habsburg Empire, as well as different encounters with the material culture of the Ottoman Empire.

Este video dará una introducción a la historia compartida entre otomanos y Habsburgo, los distintos tipos de encuentros y de dinámicas. La frontera Este tuvo un contacto más directo, sobre todo de naturaleza militar, mientras que los contactos en las áreas del oeste y la capital fueron sobre todo de naturaleza cortesana. Esto llevó a diferentes percepciones, y por tanto diferentes memorias, entre la parte este y oeste del imperio habsbúrgico, así como a distintos encuentros con la cultura material del imperio otomano.
