6.1.- Interrelatedness of Memory, Oblivion, and Heritage

This video will give an introduction on the theoretical background of the overarching topic “Memory, Oblivion and Heritage” in the context of the Islamic legacy in Europe. The idea of “oblivion” will be discussed as part of “memory” and “heritage”. It will discuss how memory comes into being, evolves and circulates, and how far the use and perception of material heritage is dependent on those memories and different historical developments.

Este video dará una introducción teórica al tema general “memoria, olvido y patrimonio” en el contexto del legado islámico en Europa. La idea de “olvido” se discutirá como un elemento más del binomio “memoria” y “patrimonio”. Se verá cómo la memoria se produce, evoluciona y circula y cómo el uso y la percepción del patrimonio material está condicionado por esas memorias en sus distintos desarrollos históricos.
