ICT accessibility: challenges and strategies

The challenge is to achieve ICT for all. It reviews strategies that can help achieve this challenge effectively and sustainably: Design for All, the business value of accessibility, legislation, and standards.

OVERVIEW
This introductory course provides an understanding and application of the principles of Design for All and Assistive Products in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), based on the fundamentals of Human-Computer Interaction.
The contents of this course have been awarded by several organizations: the Social Council of UNED, the ACE Course Awards, or the Universia Foundation – Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.

OBJECTIVES
Acquisition of competences and skills so that the principles of Universal Accessibility and Assistive Products are taken into account in daily professional practice.

Raise awareness of the discrimination that part of the population suffers from the perspective of real access to the Information Society.

Understand what a user interface is, its relationship with the concepts of ICT accessibility and usability, and the challenge posed by constant technological innovation.

Know the fundamental strategies to guarantee ICT accessibility and usability in a sustainable way, including business, legislative, and regulatory perspectives.

Know and apply the needs raised by disability and functional diversity from the perspective of Design for All in ICT.

Know and apply the main characteristics of Assistive Products applied to ICT.

TYPES OF ACTIVITIES AND TASKS
Videos, texts, self-assessment quizzes, practical exercises, faculty-moderated forum.

RECOMMENDED REQUIREMENTS
No prior knowledge is required.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Anyone interested in learning about Design for All and Assistive Products, and their relationship with Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), such as social workers, teachers of students with disabilities, personal assistants, communication professionals, engineers, programmers, etc.
