The codification of meaning in English and other languages depends on the identifiable types of words and it also depends on the units of analysis one wishes to focus on. Units of analysis such as utterances, sentences and propositions are identified to extract different kinds of information at different levels of abstraction. Therefore the degree of concretion/abstraction is used differently in semantic analysis.
